The Industrial IoT software Connectware provides a centralized data hub with applicable real-time data of your production. Connectware dissolves typical digitalization barriers as it connects your production with your IT, with every application and every system. The central data source provides all assets and resources to digitize your factories – all in one.
SaaS for professionals. Designed for experts in high-paced industrial environments, it empowers them to connect machines quickly and securely. Every second counts, and our design philosophy ensures a seamless experience: clean, structured, and purpose-driven. As industrial data operations grow in complexity, the interface provides intuitive visual guidance—offering critical information precisely when needed.
Exploring the problem space with an open mind is fundamental to gain the right information.
Exploring the problem space with an open mind is fundamental to gain the right information. It builds the basis for every next step in the process. We have built prototypes based on hypothesis and assumptions and tested several key use cases with potential customers.
The insights we have gained were summarised in Dovetail for easy an easy way of sorting and filtering information. We also made it accessible to the entire organisation to learn more about the people needs.

Understand your users? Be one
In a continuous agile development environment I always seek to make sure to built features as close as the requirements demands. So here is me, building a VW ID3 : )
Fast prototyping helps us to connect the dots.
We have all the data we need. From this very moment we are confident that we're building the right thing. Building a design language around a prototype is a whole different level. To gain speed, we took an existing design system and changed it from the ground up.
Our requirements were easy to map: simple, elegant, factory environment friendly, safe and fast. With these attributes in mind, we built Alster, the Connectware Design System.

Alster UI
The famos Hamburg Alster inspired us while building the UI design system
Typography
Typography is key
Being able to easily scan and read content, makes half the interface. I decided to split headline and body texts to bring more contrast to the game.

From elements to components
The bottom up approach gave us more flexibility on the long run. Feature design got super easy, by just drag and drop single components on to the canvas.
System
Web is king
Although Connectware runs on premise, we are mostly using web browser standards to ensure responsiveness. This is easy peasy.
Nothing but a button
Using zeroheight as our design system catalog proved useful to communicate every Alster component and layout to the entire team.
From code to no-code, with a switch
Enabling more users to work with YAML files in a factory gives the whole team super powers

There is a lot more to learn
Many more things are here to discover. How to measure success of our product design, implementation support for engineering, etc
Let's talk : )
